Wonder Woman 1984 – movie review

She rides the lightning whenever it flashes in the sky

Wonder Woman 1984 movie review

Another Hollywood extravaganza is Wonder Woman 1984 that has been recently released on Amazon. A superhero flick this time not from MCU (Marvel Comics Universe) but from DCU (DC comics Universe) the franchise which counts Superman and Batman in the legion of their superheros apart from Wonder Woman. With such antecedents we expected some great script, screenplay and action in this flick specially as it had to live upto its predecessor which did provide wholesome entertainment. Wonder Woman 1984 review…

However it fails miserably in all departments. Even the chemistry between the lead characters that was great in the previous WW movie is missing and looks forced in this film. The opening scene is of typical Hollywood grandeur a Potterisque competition in an open stadium, the spectacle is definitely breathtaking to be seen on the big screen. Once the pandemic is over and the movie releases I might see it in theatre just for this. However things start going downhill from here, what with the resurrection of a dead lover, then having to contend with a mad billionaire (Pedro Pascal of Mandalorian fame) who turns himself into a wishing stone, a female cheetah who is the new symbol for body art.

The Wonder Woman played by Gal Gadot learns to fly inspired by her lover’s words, she tries hard not to emulate the way Superman flies, there is one difference though, she rides the lightning whenever it flashes in the sky. The plot is very weak and very badly handled there are many copycat scenes like the one when the wishing stone grants everyone their wishes there is chaos and pandemonium a lot like one seen in Bruce Almighty, however with a difference, there it was hilarious but here it is dark and badly scripted almost amateurish. Even the golden dress which is nothing but glorified one piece metalic gold bikini worn with thigh high golden boots fails to resurrect this damp squib.

This Superhero venture would have looked dazzling in 1984 around the time the first Superman movie released. We would have come out of the theatres marveling at Hollywood, wow what movies they make, providing plausible explanations to every thing impossible that we marvel. They succeed in making us belive about how their heroes/villians got their power (sadly we are unable to prove the same about our own heroes like Hanuman as most of it is due to blessings, and whom we alleviated to the status of God thus finishing off the feeling that we could relate and be inspired by Him).

Wonder Woman 1984 needs to be seen for Gal Gadot who looks supercharged, a billion bucks specially in the party scene and strictly if you are a superhero movie buff or if you fantasize Wonder woman as one of of your favourite superheroes, I wonder……… Woman?
